The Red Linhay
at Hollacombe Farm

This really is a lovely base for exploring Exmoor and the spectacular North Devon coast. The scenery around Hollacombe Farm is magnificent and varied: You can enjoy fine prospects of the steep pastures and high moorland of Exmoor, before plunging down, beside the ancient woodland of Cowley Wood, into the secluded valley that forms the eastern part of the farm.

Much of the pasture is steep, and the farm has many spring fed streams. Martin & Celia have a great affection for their land, and farm it accordingly. They keep traditional Red Devon cattle and Exmoor Horn sheep, which graze the land in a way that encourages wildlife to flourish. Consequently there will be lots for guests to discover as they walk around the farm.

Wildlife to look out for

Spot a wide variety of wildlife, from Red Deer and Badgers to Snipe and Peregrine Falcons. Flower-rich streamside meadows' and steep pasture banks are good for butterflies. An excellent wetland conservation area in the valley bottom, rich in wildlife, and ideal otter habitat. The farm is adjacent to a large area of ancient woodland. Mosses and lichens, which are a Devon speciality, are abundant, and indicate a freedom from air pollution.
